ABOUT NEIL PENGELLY
The Story Behind The Artwork
Every piece begins with an idea, a memory or a moment worth preserving. Through digital artistry, layered storytelling and a passion for detail, I create artwork that invites people to look closer and discover something new each time they return.
MEET THE ARTIST
Hi, I'm Neil Pengelly
Creativity has always been part of who I am. From drawing as a child to developing my own approach to digital fine art, I have always been fascinated by the power of images to tell stories, capture memories and create emotion.
In 2021, I discovered digital art and it quickly became the perfect medium for my imagination. Within a short time, my work gained recognition and I was represented by a publisher, becoming one of their biggest-selling artists with collections enjoyed around the world.
What connects people to my artwork is often the discovery of something new. I love creating pieces that reward a second, third or even tenth look — artwork where hidden references, subtle details and unexpected connections reveal themselves over time.
My work explores the worlds of film, music, pop culture and nostalgia, reimagining familiar moments through a unique digital perspective. Every piece is created from the ground up, using my own creative process and attention to detail — never AI-generated.
Influenced by artists including Mark Davies, JJ Adams, Dan Pearce, Roy Van der Laars and Dirty Hans, I continue to explore how digital art can combine storytelling, imagination and craftsmanship.
My goal is simple: to create artwork that makes people stop, stare and then fall deeper into the image as they discover the hidden stories waiting within.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Art Should Reward Curiosity
I believe the best artwork isn’t consumed in a few seconds. It reveals itself over time. Every piece I create contains layers of detail, subtle references and visual stories designed to reward curiosity and invite conversation.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
From Concept To Canvas
My artwork begins with curiosity. I have always been fascinated by pop culture, film, music and the stories hidden beneath the surface. I don’t just look at what something is — I look at why it was created that way
A colour choice in a film, a visual reference in a music video, a symbol hidden in a scene or a moment that connects with a generation can all become the starting point for a new piece of artwork.
Once I find a subject that inspires me, I dive deeper — researching the background, exploring the meanings behind it and combining those discoveries with my own ideas and interpretations.
I don’t work from traditional sketches or rigid outlines. Instead, I begin creating directly within the artwork itself, allowing the piece to evolve naturally as layers, ideas and details come together.
The process is one of exploration, refinement and discovery. I continue developing each piece until every element feels right — until the artwork tells the story I wanted to share.
Once complete, the digital artwork becomes a physical piece. Each original is individually enhanced with mixed media elements including glitter, diamond dust, paint and spray effects, creating a tactile finish that makes every piece unique and ready to take pride of place on the wall.
